"It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas
Everywhere you go
Take a look at the five and ten, it's glistening once again
With candy canes and silver lanes aglow..."
For more then two years now I am using my Bullet Journal to organize myself and today I want to tell you how you could start your personal journal too. As the end of the year is near, you might think about what you will use as a calendar for 2019 and how to manage all your tasks.
I like to think that I'm pretty organized, and (most of the time) I am. I have my to-do lists and everything is planned out. But I am given to doing mess up everything and then the struggle is real.
So my Bullet Journal is my place for ALL my to-do's, appointments, notes and other thoughts along the way.
As I understand it a Bullet Journal is a calendar combined with a to-do list. It can be a daily log, with tasks to complete and events that day - often people use an index, a future log, a monthly page, a daily log and some trackers.
But the beauty of a Bullet Journal is that it can be anything you want it to be. You can add absolutely anything you want. If you're still confused at the end of this post, I'd suggest checking out these links below, as they have everything you could possibly need to know. It's worth spending some time reading everything you can before blindly throw yourself in, as otherwise you might just give up.

How to get started?
This is easy! Grab a notebook and a pen and you're ready.
I am using my Leuchtturm1917 notebook because they have dotted pages and to be honest: they are the most popular ones and I trusted them. And since then I am using them and I am quite happy, but they are a bit pricy. But this is totally up to you! You can use any notebook you want.
To write in my Bullet Journal I am using Muji pens or Faber Castel pens, because they don't bleed trough the pages. But when I first started I used any pen I could find - now it is just me, trying to be cool with my pretty pens :D
What's next?
I would start with a key. This contains all your different "bullets" you want to use. Mine is quite minimalist because I don't use that much different signs, but you can add as many as you want or add colors to create a color code, e.g. green for work or red for uni.
But keep in mind that you will use these signs for the whole yournal, so don't make it to complecated.
Another good page would be an index. The perks of Leuchtturm notebooks is that they're numbered and you don't have to add this page. But it is not difficult to creaty it by yourself. You just write down the pages and a "headline" and fill it in as you go. The thing with Bullet Journals is that there's no structure, so you might end up with pages all over the place, so an index is helful to find them.
I don't use this page because I know where to find my pages, but if you look back later, you'll be glad to have it.
Next up is your future log. This is useful for planning in advance. If you've got an event planned for the future ond you haven't started the month yet, this is where you write it. You can write it as a list of events or (as I do) seperated into months. And when you come to a new month, transfer your future logged items over to your monthly view page.
The monthly view page... this has events coming up for that specific month and any tasjs that you need doing, tough again, it's up to you. It's a good checkpoint to come back to when you're planning your day so you don't miss any events scheduled and you can see what you've up later in the month.
Then you can start the main part - the weekly or daily logs. I prefer weekly logs, because I don't have enough to write to fill a whole page and I don't need that much space. But again, it's up to you! You can check out all my Bullet Journal setups for the last month on this blog or if you just want to see the pictures, you can also check out my German blog (it includes Bullet Journal setups back to June 2017).
Is that it?
If you want it to be. But because of the nature of a Bullet Journal, it absolutely doesn't have to be. You can add as many other pages as you want. I think that the best way of learning what you want and what you don't use is: try and error.
Some examples of other pages you can include:
50 page ides
If you need some more inspiration, you will find hundreds and thoudsands on Pinterest! But don't let it put you off! A Bullet Journal doesn't have to look pretty, but it should be practical for you. I like making mine pretty because it encourages me to look a tit more. But if jazzing it up makes it more of a chore for you, don't do it. It doesn't have to look Instagram-worthy!
Some of my previous weekly logs are full of scribbles and messy writing, they're just not the ones I chose to show in public.
I hope you're now ready to start your own Bullet Journal or are you already using one? Feel free to tell me your story in the comments below.
Merry Christmas!❄
